What this Book Covers: This book, the third of several in ASTD’s series on e-learning, describes instructional design for e-learning.


Like most instructional design books, this one takes a process-oriented approach. It approaches instructional design as a problem-solving process that begins with an analysis of the situation and a formal definition of the problem, continues with choosing a solution to the problem, next presents techniques for developing a course that conforms to the designs, and ends with delivering the materials to learners, evaluating the effectiveness of the course, and feeding back the experiences learned into the next project.



Within the context of this process, this book presents the many design choices you face, such as how to address different learning styles and the different approaches you might take to e-learning. But followinga process, you consider those choices at the time when it is most appropriate to make them, that is, when you have completed the research needed to make a fully informed choice.



When describing these choices, the book alsos describe the issues you should consider as you make them. The truth is, several solutions exist for each training problem. The solution you ultimately choose balances the educational needs of learners, the practical constraints under which your project operates, and your own personal preferences and experiences.
